HADRIAN’S VILLA

Hadrian’s Villa is the most important and complex of all Roman villas. It was designed as a real imperial palace for the intellectual, writer, artist, architect that Hadrian was. Every building here has a peculiar plan, cover and decoration. The finest architecture mirrors in fountains and pools, creating the most spectacular perspectives. All walls were entirely decorated in marble, in the greatest variety of shapes and colors. If you are interested in Roman architecture you cannot miss this walk.

Hadrian’s Villa was even more extensive than Pompeii. We will see the most important buildings: Stoà Poikilè, Antinoeion, Canopus, Great Baths and Small Baths, Garden Stadium, Imperial Palace, Hall with Doric pillars, Golden Square, Libraries, Maritime Theater, Greek Theater.

Duration: 3 hours.

Entrance ticket: 11 euro; 2 euro for EU students under 25; free under 18.

Comfortable shoes, a snack, water, hat and sunscreeen in the Summer.

Best by car, about 45 minutes from downtown.

Public bus also available from Ponte Mammolo Metro station. For the timetable: https://servizi.cotralspa.it/PercorsiTariffe  and select Roma Ponte Mammolo in “Partenza” + Villa Adriana in “Arrivo”. Bus is 1.30 euro per person each way. The bus ride is 45 minutes, total travel time from downtown is about 1.5 hours.
